The Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering attracts talented students who strive to make a difference.

The education that students receive from the BME Department at The University of Iowa prepares them for successful careers in their chosen field. Part of that educational process is about receiving the skills and information needed to succeed outside of the classroom, so that students are ready to face the challenges of the professional world.

Undergraduates - From participating in undergraduate research and internships to studying abroad and leading student organizations, BME students choose to experience a variety of unique opportunities at The University of Iowa.

Graduate Students - BME graduate students at The University of Iowa are a cohesive and close-knit group, interacting inside and outside the laboratories. Due to the program’s collaborative atmosphere, students often work together across research groups, and frequently gather for joint seminars and courses. Students also get together for events sponsored by the department—such as the annual BME picnic and end of the year banquet — in addition to informal social activities among friends.
