Biomedical Engineering (BME) Discovery Day

Tuesday, April 6th from 9:00am-4:00 pm

BME Discovery day is a one-day virtual conference where BME students, faculty, staff, and alumni can come together to foster career exploration and occupational guidance, learn about industry trends, and build relationships through networking.

Logistics:  All but one session will be held through zoom and each session will have its own zoom link.  The breakout rooms will be created ahead of time and labeled so attendees can move autonomously.  All sessions will have a CoE representative to introduce the speaker(s) and facilitate the session.


The Morning Schedule (9:00 am – Noon CST):




9:00-10:00 am

  • Introduction of the Day
  • Keynote with Q&A


We will have a brief introduction with logistics for the day followed by our keynote speaker.

Round Table Discussions:

  2. Mentor & Mentee
  3. How to be an undergrad researcher
  4. Resume Tips & Tricks
  5. Interviewing Success
  6. How to Network Virtually

The round table discussions will last one hour, consisting of two thirty-minute sessions.  Attendees will choose which topics are most meaningful to them.  At each roundtable discussion there will be a professional outlining best practices, key strategies, and answering questions.

Industry Panels:

Emerging Trends in...

  2. Software, Imaging, & Informatics
  3. Clinical Research & Basic Science
  4. Manufacturing, Quality, & Regulatory

Attendees will choose to attend the panel that sounds most interesting to them.  Each panel will consist of two to three industry professionals that are currently working in that area.

Career Conversations


*This is the only portion of the day that will NOT be taking place in Zoom.  Career Conversations will take place in Handshake.

Students, industry professionals, and graduate programs will have the chance to connect and talk in 1:1 or group sessions.  Students will sign-up for session in advance based on schedules provided by industry professionals and graduate programs.

Hear from young professionals about their successes and challenges from various industries.  Within the hour attendees will be able to join two different round table discussions.

Pecha Kucha Tech Talks followed by Q&A


A Pecha Kucha presentation is a format that uses 20 slides or images that are displayed for 20 seconds each. The slides will move automatically as the presenter is speaking. (6.5 minutes)


This tech talk will follow a unique format.  You will hear from five different experts for no more than six and a half minutes.  They will have 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide.  Once finished you will have a few minutes for Q&A.
